Discussion: Reasoning-quality verification as a specialized Evaluator role (pre-execution), esp. for financial agents on Robinhood Chain #33

Description

@ThoughtProof

Hi Virtuals team,

With ACP now in public beta and Robinhood Chain live with Virtuals' agent infrastructure from day one, more agents are executing real financial actions autonomously in tokenized markets.

One failure mode we see repeatedly in our own autonomous trading-agent experiments: an agent can reach a decision based on reasoning that is internally coherent but factually wrong — a miscalculated threshold, a directional claim that contradicts the data, or a justification that references evidence not actually present. The action looks well-argued; the reasoning behind it doesn't hold up.

Where this maps to ACP

ACP already has an Evaluator role that verifies deliverables against the Proof of Agreement in the Evaluation phase, and the whitepaper describes a market for specialized evaluation agents. That seems like the natural home for this — not a new protocol primitive.

The gap we'd like to discuss: today evaluation is oriented toward outcome/deliverable correctness after the fact. For agents acting with real capital, there may be value in a reasoning-quality check on the decision itself, before the transaction settles — i.e. "is this action defensible given the stated evidence?" as a distinct signal from "did the deliverable match the agreement?"

Question

Would it make sense to explore reasoning-quality verification as a first-class, optional Evaluator capability in ACP — specifically a pre-execution check for financial/high-stakes agents — rather than relying only on post-execution outcome evaluation?

We're not proposing a specific implementation here. We have practical experience with this class of failure mode and would be glad to share concrete, anonymized examples if useful, and to discuss whether this belongs at the Evaluator/agent-runtime level or elsewhere.

Best regards
