step6 can not work

step6 cannot work.

1)adb shell am kill com.example.android.codelabs.lifecycle cannot run in my phone(huawei)

2)no dta is updated after kill process in phone.

I don't know reason.

I'm having the same issue as you, when I run the Step 06 solution and kill the process I don't get the saved name when I go back to the application.
I'm using an emulator running API 28

Same here. Instead of:

mSavedStateViewModel = new ViewModelProvider(this).get(SavedStateViewModel.class);

use this:

mSavedStateViewModel = new ViewModelProvider(this,
        new SavedStateViewModelFactory(getApplication(), this))
        .get(SavedStateViewModel.class);

It works for me without making any changes. At this stage you won't be able make save any state of the Activity. Once you complete the simple tutorial, you will the required result.

Changes in SavedStateActivity:
mSavedStateViewModel = new ViewModelProvider(this).get(SavedStateViewModel.class);
