Hi Shields.io team,
First of all, thank you for building and maintaining Shields.io. It has become an essential tool for developers and open-source communities worldwide.
I noticed that Shields.io currently serves a very international audience, but the website and documentation are mainly available in English. I would like to ask whether you would be interested in adding a localization / internationalization system to the project.
I’d be interested in contributing this work myself, including:
- i18n architecture for the website
- language switcher support
- translation-ready UI strings
- initial Russian localization
- scalable structure for future community translations (Russian, Spanish, German, etc.)
- documentation localization support
My goal would be to implement this cleanly, with minimal maintenance overhead and without disrupting the existing experience.
Before starting, I wanted to ask:
- Would localization be welcome in the project?
- Do you have any preferred technical direction for i18n?
- Would you accept a staged PR plan (foundation first, translations later)?
If this aligns with your roadmap, I’d be happy to help.
Thanks again for your work and time.
Best regards,
Nikolay Dvurechensky
