Portable information centers hosted by headless Linux computers offer cost-effective, rapidly deployable, and flexible support for classrooms, labs, community libraries, and other application-specific requirements. They enable adaptation to situations where internet is unavailable, inconsistent, or not cost-effective. They can also add to existing resources while not requiring the purchase of significant and expensive hardware and software. Such centers operate wirelessly and are accessible by smart phones, tablets, and laptops. They can also be powered by battery and other sources of electricity. This creates new learning, teaching, and other operational opportunities for remote and rural environments.
