Zion Smithen

AI/ML Developer · Builder · Systems Engineering Student

I build intelligent systems that solve real problems — not for the novelty of it, but because I believe technology deployed thoughtfully can meaningfully improve people's lives. Currently focused on autonomous AI agents, machine learning pipelines, and the intersection of AI safety and real-world deployment.

What I'm Building

🤖 Pilot — Autonomous Multi-Asset Trading Agent

My flagship project and first full AI agent. Pilot is an autonomous trading system that operates across stocks, forex, commodities, and crypto using a multi-timeframe ML strategy. What started as a personal finance tool became a deep education in building AI systems that make consequential decisions reliably — and what happens when they don't.

How I Think About AI

I don't just use AI as a tool — I study how it behaves. I care about:

  • Reliability — how systems fail, not just how they succeed
  • Decision boundaries — where models should and shouldn't have autonomy
  • Safety — building AI that behaves as intended under pressure
  • Real-world deployment — the gap between demo and production

These aren't abstract interests. They come from building Pilot and watching what happens when an AI agent has to make real decisions in real time.

Currently

  • 🎓 Studying Systems Engineering
  • 🔬 Studying Anthropic's research on Constitutional AI and RLHF
  • 🛠 Building a content moderation classifier as my next public project

Let's Connect

I'm interested in AI safety research, ML engineering, and building things that matter. If you're working on something aligned with that — reach out.
