I'm proposing a preprint I wrote on the definition of open source suggesting a paradigm shift from open source software to « open source resources ».

Open Source Resource: a digital resource made publicly available alongside its source files.

Why it matters for open science ? When open licenses provide the right to modify open access articles, the availability of source files provide the ability to do so. Instead of open access article, it brings the idea of « open source article » which may be an evolution of the movement after "open access".

This way of seeing open source may support the emergence of new publication formats, more evolutive, it may help to shape the path to go beyond article.

The article also deconstruct the current basis that define open source — the Open Source Definition of the Open Source Initiative — from a technical, linguistic, juridical and sociological perspective.

I believe it can be a useful paper for FORRT community to think open science.
