CCNA2 - Switching, Routing, and Wireless Essentials

Cisco Credly Badge Packet Tracer NetAcad Status

Overview

This repository documents my coursework, hands-on labs, and exam preparation for my CCNA2 (Switching, Routing, and Wireless Essentials) course, completed through Hackademy, at University Politehnica of Bucharest (UPB), between March and May 2026.

The course was followed in parallel with my Communication Protocols course (2nd Year, 2nd Semester). The overlap between these two courses reinforced both my theoretical foundations (OSI/TCP-IP model, VLANs, routing protocols, link-state vs. distance-vector algorithms) and my practical implementation side (Packet Tracer simulations and Activities).

This repository serves as a record of my complete learning path: lecture materials, solved labs, and exam practice tests, each organized by topic.

Certification

Important

My Cisco Networking Academy CCNA2 Certificate, obtained upon completing the Hackademy course, can be reviewed here: → NETACAD CCNA2 Certificate.

Topics Covered

Module Concepts
Switched Network Concepts Switching operation, MAC address tables, frame forwarding, collision/broadcast domains, hierarchical network design (access, distribution, core layers)
VLANs VLAN segmentation, VLAN trunking (802.1Q), native VLAN, VLAN troubleshooting
Inter-VLAN Routing Router-on-a-stick, Layer 3 switching, subinterfaces
Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) Loop prevention, bridge IDs, port roles and states, PVST+, Rapid PVST+
EtherChannel Link aggregation, load balancing, LACP and PAgP protocols
Static Routing Static and default routes, route summarization, floating static routes
Dynamic Routing Protocols RIPv1 and RIPv2 (distance-vector), EIGRP (advanced distance-vector), OSPF (link-state) — operation, metric calculation, neighbor adjacencies, route selection
DHCP DHCP operation (DORA process), DHCP relay, DHCPv4/DHCPv6 configuration and troubleshooting
FHRP First Hop Redundancy Protocols — HSRP and VRRP concepts, gateway redundancy
Network Security & Attack Types Common Layer 2 attacks (MAC flooding, VLAN hopping, DHCP spoofing/starvation, ARP spoofing, STP manipulation), port security, mitigation techniques
ACLs Standard and extended access control lists, ACL placement and design, named ACLs
NAT & Tunneling Static and dynamic NAT, PAT (NAT overload), tunneling fundamentals
Wireless WLAN fundamentals and configuration

Tools Used

  • Cisco Packet Tracer — used for all .pkt / .pka lab files. These can be opened with Cisco Packet Tracer, free for NetAcad students.
