BirdNET-Go runs 24/7 on a Raspberry Pi 4 (or equivalent SBC), capturing audio from a USB microphone or RTSP stream and classifying species using multiple neural networks. It supports BirdNET (6,500+ bird species), Google Perch (14,795 species including insects, amphibians, mammals), and BattyBirdNET (regional bat classifiers with ultrasonic support up to 256 kHz).
The web UI provides live spectrogram streaming, detection heatmaps, and configurable alert rules that can push to Telegram, Discord, MQTT, or webhooks. It installs with a single script on Debian/Ubuntu/Raspberry Pi OS.
This goes beyond typical Pi sensor projects. It's a complete wildlife monitoring platform with SSO, database management, a PWA frontend in 15 languages, and production features like hot-reload config and health diagnostics. People run these year-round tracking their local biodiversity.
