Tiago Jacinto

Assistant Professor of digital health, medical informatics and AI in healthcare at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP) · researcher at RISE-Health.

I work on getting algorithms to survive contact with a real clinic: real constraints, real workflows, real patients, and the day the model gets something wrong. I direct the MSc in Medical Informatics and have been teaching since 2008.

What I work on

  • Clinical decision support — connecting an algorithm's output to clinical action in respiratory medicine and primary care, with usability at the point of care.
  • AI evaluation in health — external validation, benchmarking, and real-world performance, with an emphasis on robustness outside the training distribution.
  • Mobile health (mHealth) — platforms for patients and clinicians supporting chronic-disease management and symptom monitoring.
  • Health data science — statistical modelling, clinical data analysis, and evidence synthesis to inform care and policy.

Tools that reached clinical use: eNO.VIS, the FeNO Interpretation Aid, and the AIRDOC and InspirerMundi platforms for chronic respiratory disease.
